Careers in Plastic Injection Molding
A production changeover begins well before the first part is produced: the mold and peripheral equipment are set up, the press is adjusted, and the startup is monitored to ensure that production remains in compliance. If a deviation occurs, it is necessary to understand what is happening and adjust the settings accordingly.
At DEMGY Group’s injection molding facilities, this work involves professionals capable of setting up equipment, monitoring production, and diagnosing malfunctions.
What plastic injection molding roles are available at DEMGY Group?
Plastic Injection Molding Technician
The injection molding technician is directly involved in preparing and starting up production runs.
They set up and adjust the injection molding machines and their peripheral equipment, then manage production changeovers. This includes setting up molds, peripheral equipment, and associated workstations.
Once the equipment is set up, they start production according to the defined settings and monitor its operation. The first parts are closely monitored to verify the start-up.
The work continues throughout production. When a deviation occurs, the operator must detect it and take action. When faced with a malfunction, they use available information to identify the cause and implement the appropriate solution.
At certain stations, the scope of work also includes operating robots, adjusting sensors or inspection cameras, and testing new tooling and processes.
What does a plastic injection molding professional do?
Preparing for production first requires setting up a configuration suited to the production run: the mold, press, and peripheral equipment must all work together.
The startup phase is then a critical step. Production must be initiated, and the first parts must be monitored to verify that everything is functioning properly.
When parameters drift or a malfunction occurs, the work shifts to troubleshooting. Monitoring data allows the problem to be analyzed before making any adjustments.
With the automation of production, the scope of the position may also extend beyond the injection molding machine itself. Robots, sensors, cameras, and other peripheral devices are among the equipment that some machine setters work on.
In which plants are injection molding operations carried out?
Injection molding operations are present at all ten DEMGY Group plants: DEMGY Normandie, DEMGY Paris, DEMGY Atlantique, and DEMGY Frasne in France; the DEMGY EIS facilities in Euskirchen and Lemgo, Germany; DEMGY Făgăraș and DEMGY Deva in Romania; and DEMGY Chicago and DEMGY Pacific in Tacoma, United States.
The scope varies from one plant to another. Depending on the location, the listed activities include the injection molding of thermoplastics and thermosets, overmolding, two-component molding, LSR injection molding, injection molding in ISO 7 and 8 cleanrooms, and micro-injection molding.
What skills are useful in injection molding?
Setup requires an understanding of the equipment and how it interacts: the press, mold, and peripheral equipment must be prepared and then monitored during production.
You must also be able to observe what is happening at startup and during production. Any deviation or malfunction requires reviewing the available data, investigating the cause, and taking methodical action.
Rigor, precision, and analytical skills are therefore directly applied in day-to-day work.
The required education and experience depend on the position. For example, a job posting for an injection molding machine operator at a French factory requires a minimum of a Bac Pro or BTS degree in plastics processing, with prior experience preferred. This prerequisite applies specifically to this position and is not a standard requirement for all factories.
